They came to inspect a septic tank at a house that was being sold. The following email I sent them tells the story. "You do not appear to be able to answer my question regarding which of the general binding rule number(s) do you think this system does not comply with? You said in your report "In our expert opinion this tank does not comply with the Environment Agency binding rules that came into force from 01/01/20." But you can not say which rules. Do you know how serious this is. The buyer has insisted on a price reduction of £10000 in order to install a new sewage treatment plant on the basis of your report. If you still stand by your report please say which rule number(s) do you think this system does not comply with and why? Alternatively you may now wish to amend your report regarding compliance with the general binding rules. I look forward to your response within the next week before I write a review of the work of your company. I have attached another copy of the Environment Agency General Binding Rules for you to refer to." They did not respond. I leave it to you to draw your own conclusions.
