I am extremely Happy with the work that Mel did for us in May. So much so, we got Mel to come back and do our front garden as well this week. I am very happy with both but this review mainly relates to the back garden which was the much bigger project. INITIAL ISSUE We moved into our house approximately 10 years before and the drainage in our back garden started to become an issue from the second year. We did get the builders to come out and they fitted a land drain which helped a little but the problem became worse each year. Eventually the garden became unusable for all but a few months a year in the warmest months. We had more moss than lawn and the flower beds would not grow anything. So our goal was fix these issues, have a patio installed and flower beds etc. INITIAL QUOTATION/SURVEY I had had a few people come around to quote. They mainly seemed to ignore the drainage issues and focus on the patio etc. There explanations/solutions all seemed conflict and gave me very little confidence they knew how to solve the drainage issues. It was very different when I met Mel. He seemed to understood the problem and he came up with a clear plan to resolve the issue and examples where he had done this before. He explained the process throughly and he split the project into two parts. The drainage issue and the landscaping. He provided a quotation for both parts separately and came up with a garden design which was much better than I could had dreamed up. The quote was detailed and clearly laid out the work required and costings. I then later rang Mel to talk through the quote, query timescales and the practical/ logistical process and impact on our neighbours so I could warn them in advance. Happy with Mel’s answers I booked him for a few months later. DRAINAGE I have to admit I under estimated how big a job this was. Mel used a mini digger and dug deep down into the garden and removed literally tonnes of rubble that the builders had left which was the main cause of the problem. He then dug deep trenches into the garden and created land drains to help prevent any further issues. He then replaced the topsoil. The whole process took about a week. LANDSCAPING This involved installing a new patio, paving, raised sleeper beds and a new lawn around the borders at different levels. Having looked into the tiles we decided to use porcelain tiles instead as we preferred the colourings and because there are longer lasting. Mel was very happy to accommodate these requests, explained the effect on the overall price and came up with a few other tweaks & suggestions that would enhance the garden. This part of the project took a further week to complete and both my wife and I are extremely happy with the results. His attention to detail and workmanship is very good. FLOWERS This was not included in our initial quote but we asked Mel to do so to take advantage of his knowledge in this area and it was very clear he knew much more than we did. After asking us regarding colour schemes and types of plants he came up with plan to which we agreed. AFTERCARE Mel gave us good advice on how to maintain the lawn and flower beds. We have had a few little snags which he came out and fixed when he completed the front garden. NEIGHBOURS/DISRUPTION Mel made every effort to minimise any disruption to our neighbours and ourselves and made a point of going to meet each one to introduce himself. He used boards and sheets to protect the driveways. SUMMARY I am not someone that normally spends time writing reviews, but I thought it was only fair to spend the time doing this as Mel has completely transformed our garden. It has been about 5 months since Mel completed the work. The drainage has definitely been tested as we have had one of the wettest summers I can remember. We have had no issues at all and the flower beds look amazing. All our friends and family have commented how good it looks. You can obviously tell that Mel enjoys doing his job and this shines through in his work. I can’t recommend him enough.

Mel did an excellent job for me replacing my existing front lawn which was in very poor condition , he removed tons of rubble which had been buried by the builders. He quoted me a very fair price for laying a new lawn with quality turf including the removal of an overgrown shrub. He turned up when he said he would , and finished the job within the timescale he quoted for. His communication was first class and I would highly recommend him . I am delighted with the finished article.

Had quite an extensive back garden makeover by Mel and Dave who worked so hard to battle the elements during the job. Great result, hard workers who cleaned up every day & left everything tidy. I would say that Mel is very knowledgeable, professional and a perfectionist which is what you want when doing such a large project.

The lads from Mellowe were recently doing a job near to my in-laws, who asked if they could take a look at a small job in their back garden. Not only did they check it out, but as promised came back with the materials and did the job. To top it off they refused to take any payment which was such a kind gesture.
